The year 2021 is here. This year has brought us a pandemic-influenced situation in which everything including economies, supply chain, shopping, personal lives, and traditional values. This situation brings forward a lot of challenges and opportunities to people in different industries. In this article, we will specifically discuss packaging. Due to a change in buying methods, companies have to use different ways to pack their products to meet the industry requirements.

In this article, we will review 2020 and discuss what to expect in 2021.

E-Commerce

E-commerce has proved to a cornerstone in the modern age of marketing and shopping. The closure of physical shopping centers around the world has allowed e-commerce to become an even more prominent part of people’s lives. Whether you are a small business, a startup, or a large enterprise, you have to ensure your presence in the e-commerce world to survive in the time to come.

E-commerce necessitates e-commerce packaging more than ever. With no touch-point between consumers and brands available other than product delivery, brands must create product packaging capable of leaving a lasting impression. This concept of packaging also necessitates packaging personalization.

Sustainability

The concept of sustainability has gained traction in recent years. Every industry out there focuses on using manufacturing and packaging methods that are fundamentally sustainable and eco-friendly. Consumers are now wary of buying foods and other products packed in plastic packaging containers more than ever. That is because of a general concept that plastic is hard to recycle. Nonetheless, new techniques and methods are being deployed to produce sustainable plastic packaging materials. The most necessary factor to consider in this regard is the delivery of information regarding how to recycle. As it turns out, even traditional plastic is recyclable. It is all about educating consumers on how to recycle.

Interactive packaging

Interactive packaging has been a popular subject for the past few years, and it will become more popular in the time to come. It is not just a way to dress a product. It has become a rather marketing tool that provides a much more immersive experience to consumers. The inclusion of virtual and augmented reality has made interactive product packaging even more interesting. Virtual and augmented reality allows customers to interact with their respective brands.

Food delivery

For the first time in human history, food delivery has become a means of survival. With most restaurants and eateries closed, people in the restaurant industry had to choose a way to get their products sold to their customers. Food delivery has turned out to be the only way to ensure consistent sales. It has also meant a rise in the demand for packaging supplies required to store and deliver fresh and raw food items. What’s imperative here is that foods should arrive at consumers’ doorsteps without any spoilage, and the packaging materials should be lightweight. Too bulky materials are usually hard to dispose of and are tough to recycle.

2020 has changed a lot of market and business trends, and 2021 is likely to carry these changes in the future due to an overall shift in consumer habits. The change in packaging trends and designs also reflects the change in consumer behavior.
